The mission of the US Green Building Council Massachusetts Chapter (USGBC MA) is to drive sustainable and regenerative design, construction, and operation of buildings and communities in Massachusetts. We envision a thriving and diverse community, working together for a built environment that is ecologically, socially and economically healthy, resilient and prosperous for all. Our organization is a multi-disciplinary membership-based community organization advocating for green buildings with our active geography in the Boston and metro-Boston region. High-performance (green) buildings reduce greenhouse gas emissions, diminish toxicity in our ecosystems, have better material sourcing and supply chains, healthier indoor environments, conserve on water, and hold many other benefits that improve the quality of life for both the occupiers and the environment.

Over 1,100 professionals participate as members and active volunteers, 5,000 practitioners attend at least one of our events and over 25,000 people subscribe to our various communication lists. Through our many committees, we address all aspects of the greening of the real estate sector: planning, development, design, engineering, construction, management, operation, and beyond. We help all practitioners by promoting market transformation and the growth of the green building sector.

ABOUT

Promoting a Community of Growth

Boston is undergoing incredible transformation in the built environment with an increase in green buildings and sustainable designs. Green Buildings are no longer the exception, they’re the rule, and training  technicians to operate these buildings is critical for the economy and the environment.

WHAT IS THE GREEN SKILLS GAP?

Employers are learning that many of the high-performance green buildings built over the last decade are not living up to their energy efficiency potential because there is a green skills gap amongst building operators and building technicians. Without a skilled workforce, these buildings will not provide the environmental or the financial return on investment as expected.
